(Vienna, 5 November 2026) The Medical University of Vienna has been awarded the Biber Impact Award 2026 in the ‘Institution’ category for its commitment to ‘diversity and opportunity’. The focus is on the “Inclusion@MedUni Vienna” project, through which the university has been specifically promoting an inclusive and accessible working environment for people with disabilities since 2023.
The project focuses on counselling, raising awareness and the targeted recruitment of people with disabilities. The aim is to break down barriers in everyday working life, promote equal opportunities and make the best possible use of the diverse skills and experiences of staff members. MedUni Vienna views inclusion as a cross-cutting priority, which is driven forward through close collaboration with the Advisory Board for People with Disabilities, the Accessibility Officer, the Disability Liaison Officers and other university project groups.
Vice-Rector Michaela Fritz, the Deputy Head of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Department, Angelika Hoffer-Pober, and the Accessibility Officer, Alexander Ahrens, accepted the Biber Impact Award on behalf of MedUni Vienna. The award ceremony took place at the Austrian Post’s Vienna headquarters and brought together representatives from the worlds of culture, media, business and academia.
With the Biber Impact Award, BIBER magazine recognises MedUni Vienna’s commitment to a working environment in which diversity is seen as a strength and the equal participation of people with disabilities is actively promoted.
