(Vienna, 05 October 2026) The Vienna Translational Medicine Conference took place at the Medical University of Vienna as part of the opening celebrations of the new Center for Translational Medicine (CTM) and the Eric Kandel Institute – Center for Precision Medicine (CPM). The conference focused on current developments and challenges in translational medicine, bringing together international experts to discuss how scientific findings can be translated into innovative diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic concepts for patients.
With keynote lectures, panel discussions and poster awards, the conference provided a platform for interdisciplinary exchange and networking. A central focus was the promotion of the “bench-to-bedside” transfer – from laboratory research to clinical practice – and strengthening the link between basic research and patient care.
International experts discuss the future of translational medicine
The conference opened with a keynote lecture by Christoph Huber, co-founder of BioNTech and member of the University Council of the Medical University of Vienna, titled “Translating science into survival”. Internationally renowned experts contributed keynote lectures in the fields of immunology, oncology, cardiology and neuroscience.
The programme included contributions by Peter Libby (Harvard University and Brigham and Women’s Hospital), Maria Rescigno (CeMM – Research Center for Molecular Medicine), Benjamin Neel (New York University) and Anne Schäfer (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai).
New research infrastructure strengthens translation from discovery to application
The Vienna Translational Medicine Conference was part of the opening programme for the Center for Translational Medicine and the Eric Kandel Institute – Center for Precision Medicine at the MedUni Campus AKH. The two new research buildings provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for translational and personalised medicine and aim to accelerate the transfer of scientific discoveries into improved approaches for diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
The Center for Translational Medicine bridges basic science and clinical practice by bringing together the development chain from experimental laboratory research to clinical research projects. The Eric Kandel Institute – Center for Precision Medicine provides infrastructure for developing new methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment tailored to individual patient characteristics.
