(Vienna, 15 September 2026) MedUni Vienna has significantly improved its position in the ‘Clinical Medicine’ category in the recently published 2026 Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) compared with last year. Ranked in the 51–75 bracket, it has moved up further from last year’s position in the 76–100 bracket and is thus among the highest-ranked medical universities internationally in this subject.
In the ‘Clinical Medicine’ category, only the University of Heidelberg ranks higher than MedUni Vienna in the DACH region.
MedUni Vienna also confirms its strong international position in ‘Medical Technology’, retaining its 23rd place from the previous year.
About the ranking
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) by ShanghaiRanking assesses universities in individual academic disciplines primarily on the basis of their research performance. Factors taken into account include the quality and impact of scientific publications, international research collaborations and scientific awards.
The ranking covers 57 subjects across the fields of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medicine and social sciences. The assessment is based on nine indicators across the five categories: ‘World-Class Faculty’, ‘World-Class Output’, ‘High-Quality Research’, ‘Research Impact’ and ‘International Collaboration’.
