Robert Frank Award for Florian Beck and Hermann Agis

(Vienna, 04 December 2017) Florian Beck and Hermann Agis from the University Clinic of Dentistry Vienna received the Robert Frank Award at the Oral Health Research Congress of the International Association for Dental Research (Continental European Division & Scandinavian Division) held in Vienna.

Florian Beck took first place in the Senior Clinical Research category, Hermann Agis second place in the Senior Basic Science category.

They will both be representing the Continental European Division of the International Association for Dental Research (CED-IADR) in the Hatton Award Competition at the General Session of the IADR/PER in London in July 2018 (www.iadr.org).

Florian Beck impressed the jury with the presentation of his study: "Metal Artifact Reduction in Computed Tomography for Titanium/Zirconia Dental Implants"

Since he completed his dental studies in 2012, Florian Beck has been a junior doctor in the Oral Surgery division. His research work focuses on CAD/CAM in implantology, antibiotic prophylaxis in dental, oral and maxillofacial medicine and photodynamic therapy for diseases of the oral mucosa.

Hermann Agis

Hermann Agis impressed the jury with the presentation of his study: "Hypoxia and the hypoxia mimetic agent L-mimosine can increase the production of angiopoietin-like 4 in oral cells".

Hermann Agis studied biotechnology at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences and gained his PhD at MedUni Vienna in 2011. From 2013 to 2014 he was a visiting researcher at the Dental School of the University of Michigan, returning to Vienna in 2014 to become a private lecturer at MedUni Vienna. Agis is Head of the Center of Excellence for Tissue Construction and Cell-Based Therapies at the University Clinic of Dentistry Vienna, where he became Associate Professor in 2017. His research focuses on oral tissue construction.
