Thomas Reiberger wins EASL Emerging Leader Award 2020

Great distinction for Thomas Reiberger from MedUni Vienna's Department of Medicine III (Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology) and Head of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Portal Hypertension and Fibrosis in Liver Diseases, which opened in 2020: the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) has now awarded its prestigious Emerging Leader Award 2020 to the gastroenterologist.

With 4,500 members, the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) is Europe's largest association for research into liver diseases. It's aim is to promote excellence in the study of liver diseases and to support the solid training of young hepatologists.
The Emerging Leader Award is awarded annually to two EASL members under the age of forty. The award carries a prize of €3,000 and the opportunity to be published in the prestigious Journal of Hepatology (currently the highest-ranking journal in the field of hepatology with an impact factor of 20,582). The prize-winners are chosen by a committee of the Young Investigator Task Force, on the basis of their previous achievements in the field of liver research.

About Thomas Reiberger
Thomas Reiberger studied medicine at MedUni Vienna. Following his clinical appointment, he set up the Vienna Hepatic Experimental (HEPEX) Lab at the Medical University of Vienna, where he conducted translational clinical studies into portal hypertension and fibrosis. He obtained his Venia docendi in 2011 and his registration as a Consultant in Internal Medicine in 2012. His main area of research is the investigation of new therapeutic strategies for patients with liver disease. Since 2018, Thomas Reiberger has also been Director of the Cirrhosis Outpatient Clinic and the Hepatic Hemodynamic Laboratory of the Medical University of Vienna. In addition to this, he is Adjunct Principal Investigator at the CeMM and the Ludwig Boltzmann  Institute for Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases (LBI-RUD). Since 2020, he has headed up the newly opened Christian Doppler Laboratory for Portal Hypertension and Fibrosis in Liver Diseases at MedUni Vienna.
