Gabriele Fischer appointed to Scientific Board of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction

(Vienna, 13 January 2020) After already serving for two terms, Gabriele Fischer, addiction expert from MedUni Vienna's Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy has been reappointed as a member of the Scientific Board of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA).

The Scientific Board of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) is made up of twelve scientists from EU countries, with interdisciplinary research expertise, and advises the EU, inter alia, on important strategic aspects of addiction.

About Gabriele Fischer
Gabriele Fischer is a consultant psychiatrist and neurologist and heads up the outpatient drug clinic at MedUni Vienna’s Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy. Since 1994, she has dedicated herself to researching addiction, concentrating on the entire spectrum of substance addictions but also gaming addiction and associated comorbidities (e.g. ADHD, gender-specific aspects).

Gabriele Fischer advises WHO and UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime), is Project Leader for numerous EU & NIH projects and, in addition to her international activities, which include setting up a treatment programme for opiate-dependent women in Afghanistan, she is also a member of the Supreme Health Council of the Austrian Republic.
