Gerhard Prager appointed President Elect of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders

(Vienna, 08 November 2021) Gerhard Prager, Professor of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, has been appointed President Elect of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). IFSO is the global professional society in this field and has over 10,000 members.

Prager will succeed Scott Shikora (Director of the Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School) in this role. Prager has held the position of IFSO European Chapter President since 2018.

About Gerhard Prager
Gerhard Prager, born in 1967, is Head of the Obesity Outpatient Clinic at the Department of General Surgery of MedUni Vienna and Vienna General Hospital. He graduated as a doctor of general medicine at the medical faculty of the University of Vienna in July 1992. In 2003, he was appointed senior doctor at the Department of Surgery of MedUni Vienna and Vienna General Hospital and, since 2004, he has also acted as head of the "Bariatric Surgery" working group. In September 2021 he took over the Chair in Bariatric Surgery (§ 98) at MedUni Vienna. Prager was Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of IFSO (International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders) from 2011 to 2015.
