Katrin Nagl honoured by the Austrian Diabetes Society

(Vienna, 30 November 2023) At this year's annual conference of the Austrian Diabetes Society (ÖDG) in Salzburg, Katrin Nagl from MedUni Vienna's Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine received the €40,000 research prize.

"CYCLUS. CYcle-tracking in Closed and open Loop Users for estimation of cycle-dependent variations in insulin Sensitivity" is the title of the research work honoured by the specialist society. Katrin Nagl and her team are investigating the influence of the menstrual cycle on insulin sensitivity and the associated diabetes management of adolescents and young women with type 1 diabetes with the long-term aim of improving diabetes therapy for girls and women with type 1 diabetes. The project is a multi-centre project carried out in cooperation with the Department of Medicine III of MedUni Vienna, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of MedUni Vienna and Hietzing Hospital.

About the person:
Katrin Nagl completed her medical studies at the Medical University of Vienna in 2012, then finished her specialist training at MedUni Vienna's Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and has since worked as a specialist in additive specialist training at the Division of Paediatric Pulmonology, Allergology and Endocrinology. In 2021, she completed her doctorate under the supervision of Michael Krebs and Birgit Rami-Merhar on the topic of "Evaluation of Early Markers of Cardiovascular Disease in Adolescents and Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus". Since 2012, she has been part of Birgit Rami-Merhar's working group, focussing on diabetes both scientifically and clinically.
