Markus Grimm appointed Director of the Central Administration Coordination Office

Head of Legal and Compliance coordinates measures to optimize interdepartmental cooperation

(Vienna, 04 October 2023) Markus Grimm, Head of the Legal and Compliance Department of the Medical University of Vienna, has been additionally entrusted by the Rectorate with the function of Director of the Coordination Office of the Central Administration of MedUni Vienna and the Joint Operational Management with Vienna General Hospital as of 1 October 2023.

Markus Grimm will act as spokesman for the team of heads of departments and staff positions of the central administration of MedUni Vienna and will accompany measures to optimize interdepartmental cooperation and cooperation between the central administration and the scientific organizational units, as well as acting in a coordinating capacity as before within the framework of joint operational management with the AKH. The technical, content-related and organizational responsibilities of the individual departments and staff units of the central administration will remain unchanged.

About the person
Markus Grimm studied law (diploma and doctorate) at the University of Vienna and completed the university course in health care management at MedUni Vienna. After graduating, he gained professional experience in the legal and judicial sector and worked as a lawyer in the service law and staff department of the Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences section of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. In 2002, he took over the management of the Legal Department of the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna and in 2004 the management of the Legal Department - in the meantime Department of Law and Compliance - of the Medical University of Vienna, which had become independent. In doing so, he played a major role in shaping the "becoming a university". He also played a key role in shaping the cooperation agreement between MedUni Vienna and Vienna General Hospital and has been involved in the joint operational management in a coordinating role since 2016.

Markus Grimm is also deputy chairman of the umbrella association of universities and a member of the negotiating team for the universities' collective agreement. He also holds numerous other positions, for example as a member of the advisory board of the Institute for Ethics and Law in Medicine.

In addition to his professional activities, Markus Grimm is active in science and teaching. This is evidenced by numerous publications in the field of medical, university and personnel law (e.g. co-author of the commentary on university personnel law, co-author of Grundzüge des Medizinrechts and author of the Handbuch Medizinrecht) or as co-editor of the Journal für Medizin- und Gesundheitsrecht. Grimm holds lectures on this topic at several universities. In 2019, he was awarded the title of Honorary Professor in the Department of Private Law of the Faculty of Law and Economics by the University of Salzburg for his special academic achievements.
