Marianne Graninger honoured with Abbott Award 2023 of the European Society of Clinical Virology

(Vienna, 14 September 2023) Marianne Graninger, assistant physician at the Center for Virology at the Medical University of Vienna, was awarded the Abbott Award 2023 of the European Society of Clinical Virology (ESCV). The annual Abbott Award is presented to an internationally aspiring scientist in the field of clinical virology.

Marianne Graninger was selected as this year's awardee due to her research activities in the field of neurovirology, particularly the identification of risk factors for the development of neurological complications due to viral infections.

About the person
Marianne Graninger was born in Vienna in 1994 and studied medicine at the Medical University of Vienna. Since 2020, she has been undergoing her specialist training in clinical microbiology and virology at the Center for Virology. In her doctoral studies she focuses on researching virological infections affecting the nervous system, in particular the influence of virus- and host-specific factors on the development of neurological complications of viral diseases, under the supervision of Elisabeth Puchhammer-Stöckl.
