(Vienna/Innsbruck/Graz/Linz, 24 February 2026) On 2 March 2026, the registration phase for the 2026 admissions procedure for places in human medicine and dentistry at the Medical University of Vienna, Innsbruck and Graz and at the Faculty of Medicine of Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) will begin on the website www.medizinstudieren.at. A total of 1,950 places are available. The registration deadline for the admission tests, which will take place on 3 July 2026 (approx. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), is Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
All important information about the admission procedure and all study locations is available on the joint website www.medizinstudieren.at, which also provides answers to frequently asked questions.
To help you prepare, the website offers numerous practice examples and information on the individual test sections and task groups, supplemented by general tips and instructions, all free of charge. No proof of secondary school leaving certificate or A-levels is required for either online registration or participation in the MedAT admission test. The prerequisite for admission to the admission test is that you are at least in the final (12th/13th) year of school. Those who have been offered a place at university must provide proof of university entrance qualification during the admission process.
A total of 1,950 study places
For the 2026/27 academic year, a total of 1,950 places are available for human medicine and dentistry (50 more than in the previous year), of which 784 are at the Medical University of Vienna, 430 at the Medical University of Innsbruck, 406 at the Medical University of Graz and 330 at the Medical Faculty of JKU Linz (in Linz, only human medicine). At least 95 per cent of the study places are reserved for EU citizens and persons with equivalent access to higher education, and at least 75 per cent of the study places are reserved for applicants with an Austrian school-leaving certificate. However, this quota regulation only applies to the allocation of study places in human medicine.
In the 2026/27 academic year, up to 87 human medicine places out of the 1,950 medical study places will be available for tasks in the public interest for federal states, the Austrian Health Insurance Fund, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Defence. Applicants who wish to apply for one of these dedicated study places must participate in the regular registration process for their desired location and, as part of an agreement with the respective institution, commit to actually performing the tasks in the public interest. A minimum score on the entrance exam is required to obtain one of these study places. Further details are also available at www.medizinstudieren.at.
To register for the entrance examinations, a fee of EUR 110 must be paid by the deadline as part of the online registration process. This fee contributes to covering the costs incurred by the universities for the admission procedures. The entrance examinations will take place at all locations on Friday, 3 July 2026.
