Supreme Health Council reconstituted

Rector Markus Müller re-elected as President

(Vienna, 18 February 2026) Markus Müller, Rector of MedUni Vienna, has been elected President of the Supreme Health Council (OSR) for the 2026-28 term of office. This body advises the Ministry of Health on medical issues and makes recommendations. 

This is the fourth time since 2018 that the Rector of MedUni Vienna has taken on this responsible role: ‘The Austrian healthcare system is going through challenging times. The aim of the OSR is to advise the government on relevant healthcare issues based on the best available evidence.’ Christiane Druml, bioethicist and Director of the Josephinum, was re-elected as Vice-President. 

Supreme Health Council
The Supreme Health Council is enshrined in law and is the most important advisory body to the Ministry of Health on issues and matters relating to healthcare. The council develops recommendations that provide a technical basis for health policy decisions.
In order to be able to make decisions on a broad scientific basis, the Federal Minister and the State Secretary for Health are advised by honorary experts from various fields.
