University Hospital Vienna and MedUni Vienna successfully certified according to ISO 14001 and EMAS

(Vienna, 10 February 2026) University Hospital Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna have successfully had their environmental management system certified according to ISO 14001 and EMAS III (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme). After a year of intensive preparation, this important project has now been successfully completed – an outstanding achievement and proof of the great commitment of all those involved.

The ISO 14001 and EMAS III certification confirms the joint efforts of University Hospital Vienna and MedUni Vienna to consistently integrate environmental protection, sustainability and resource conservation into everyday hospital and university life. The structured environmental management system ensures that environmental performance is continuously improved – an important step towards responsibly mastering future challenges.
 
"This result is the outcome of a great team effort," emphasises AKH Director Herwig Wetzlinger. "All employees have contributed with great commitment to the fact that we can now be considered pioneers in the health and education sector."
MedUni Vice-Rector Oswald Wagner also underlines the significance of this success: "With this certification, University Hospital Vienna and MedUni Vienna are sending a clear signal for sustainability in practice and showing that cutting-edge medicine and environmental protection can go hand in hand."
