(Vienna, 21 January 2026) In the recently published Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2026, MedUni Vienna achieved 84th place in the subject group "Medical and Health", placing it among the top 100 in the world.

After the Medical University of Vienna was already ranked among the top 200 universities worldwide in the recently published THE World University Rankings 2026 in the overall ranking – without specific reference to medicine – the current subject ranking confirms its position among the leading medical schools worldwide.

Particularly noteworthy is MedUni Vienna's excellent performance in the ‘Research Quality’ category.

Despite the high quality of teaching demonstrated in accreditations, the figures in this area are comparatively low. This is mainly due to the low international teacher-student ratio. This is largely due to the high number of around 780 first-year students per year. This is a result of the special features of the Austrian healthcare system, in particular the exceptionally high density of hospitals in international comparison.

The two other Austrian medical universities in the ranking, Graz and Innsbruck, achieved placements in the 151-175 and 176-200 ranges respectively.

A total of 1,230 universities from 102 countries were included in the ranking.
