(Vienna, 26 July 2019) The "Max and Lara" project supports sick children from poor families who are being treated at the Medical University of Vienna/Vienna General Hospital. With the help of sponsors, patients and their families are spending a week's holiday at Wörthersee in Carinthia as part of a pilot project. For some of the seriously ill children this will be the first holiday they have ever had. During their stay, the families will be supported by social workers from MedUni Vienna’s Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.

"Max & Lara go on holiday" is an initiative of the CAPE 10 Foundation and is being run for the first time this year as a pilot project. Selected families being cared for at the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of MedUni Vienna/Vienna General Hospital will be given the opportunity to go on a relaxing holiday together. The Department of Paediatrics selected the families according to strict medical and socio-economic guidelines.

During their week's holiday, the families will be supported by two social workers from the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of MedUni Vienna/Vienna General Hospital. In addition to bathing in the lake and romping around the garden, the subject of social work will also play an important role during the week. The social workers will provide the children and their families with assistance and support in overcoming difficult and critical life circumstances and will help them to develop tools and techniques to improve their life situation and enhance their equality of opportunity.

Plasser & Theurer is making its 58-bed staff holiday home in Pörtschach am Wörthersee available for one week and will also cater for the guests. Other sponsors are paying for travelling expenses and various entrance fees or are giving donations in kind.
