MedUni Vienna ranks 34th among the best "young" universities

Top-ranking Austrian university climbs up the Times Higher Education 150 Under 50 Ranking

(Vienna, 6 April 2016) The Medical University of Vienna is once against the top-ranking Austrian university in the Times Higher Education 150 Under 50 Ranking, which was published on Wednesday and selects the best "young" universities. MedUni Vienna, an independent university since 2004, was once again among the front runners, taking 34th place (37th the previous year) and so improving its ranking by three places.

In the "Times Higher Education Ranking", published for the fifth time this year and extended from a list of 100 to 150 universities, the publishers sought to highlight "young" universities established within the last 50 years as the next "education powerhouses" and to show which institutions are challenging the old, established Anglo-American universities.

The institutions were ranked on the basis of 13 indicators from five different areas (research, teaching, citations, external funding and international activities), which the Times Higher Education World University Ranking also uses, albeit with a slightly different weighting.

The top places in the ranking are occupied by the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland ),  Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Apart from MedUni Vienna, Austria is also represented in the ranking by the Johannes Kepler University Linz (founded in 1966). This is in joint position 101 – 150.
