Biobank

Originally started as an independent project, the infrastructure has gained increasing importance over the past years and is now structured into three main areas: the Department of Laboratory Medicine, the Department of Pathology, and the Division of Neuropathology and Neurochemistry.

The biobank sees itself as an interface between patient care and non-profit biomedical research. Depending on the specific requirements of each project, inquiries are directed to the appropriate experts, who offer well-founded support in developing the research concept thanks to their many years of experience.

Over time, the MedUni Vienna Biobank has become one of the largest biobanks in Europe and the second largest in Austria. Additionally, the biobank cooperates with the Austrian biobanking network (BBMRI.at) to support both national and international researchers in their biomedical research.

The biobank offers researchers optimal infrastructure to ensure suitable processes and storage conditions for their projects. Various temperature levels are available, all centrally monitored for quality assurance. This ensures the secure long-term storage of biological materials. The biobank also sees itself as a partner in storing additional data that may be relevant to your research.

Our highest priority is to guarantee the best possible quality of research materials through expertise and advanced technology.
