(Vienna, 25 February 2025) MedUni Vienna has once again successfully passed the university and family audit. It has been awarded the national quality mark of the Federal Ministry of Labour, Family and Youth, which identifies it both internally and externally as a family-friendly institution. The hochschuleundfamilie audit aims to create optimal conditions for employees and students in order to make it easier to combine work and study with family commitments. With this in mind, MedUni Vienna is continuously expanding its range of services.
MedUni Vienna sees it as one of its fundamental objectives to promote the potential of its employees. It is therefore essential to provide all employees with appropriate support in balancing work and family life and to fully utilise the benefits of re-certification. Finding a balance between work and family responsibilities is an exciting challenge for many (expectant) parents. In the same way, combining caring for and looking after relatives with one's own career or studies often places considerable demands on those affected.
In addition to the existing programmes, new initiatives were launched to expand the range of offers for employees. The implementation of various measures, such as extended holiday childcare or the extensive range of family services and various advisory measures, has not only strengthened the company's reputation as a family-friendly employer, but also increased its general awareness and visibility. As a result, the support services were not only frequently requested and utilised, but were also very positively received. The numerous affirmative feedbacks confirm the success of the certification and encourage MedUni Vienna as an employer to improve the existing measures and to continuously expand the offer.
What has been achieved
The expansion of holiday childcare has been particularly successful. An almost free service has been created that allows employees to have their children looked after during the holidays while they are at work. In order to cater to the different age-related needs of the children, the six to twelve-year-olds were divided into a group for younger children and a group for older children.
The children are encouraged in their creativity (e.g. pottery workshop, handicrafts) and at the same time their scientific interest is stimulated through research projects or museum visits. Particularly important is the sporting balance, which takes place in the immediate vicinity of MedUni Vienna on the USI sports field. This reduces the effort involved in dropping off and picking up the children, which also makes it easier to reconcile work and family life. The high demand and full capacity utilisation in conjunction with the numerous positive feedbacks from parents prove the success of the programme.
The university and family audit
The university and family audit is an externally supervised process in which the university systematically analyses its existing family-friendly offers and measures and develops them further in a targeted manner on this basis. In recognition of its commitment to implementation, the university receives the state quality mark from the Federal Ministry of Labour, Family and Youth, which identifies it both internally and externally as a family-friendly institution.
