(Vienna, 30 June 2025) Ranko Škrbić, Dean of the Medical Faculty at the University of Banja Luka, and Markus Müller, Rector of the Medical University of Vienna, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding documenting their intention to intensify academic exchange and scientific cooperation.
The University of Banja Luka is the leading public university in the Republika Srpska and the second largest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was founded on 7 November 1975 and today comprises 16 faculties, including the Faculty of Medicine, which was established in 1978. It offers integrated degree programmes in human medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, organised according to the Bologna system.
The faculty operates a centre for biomedical research with laboratories for molecular biology, pharmacology, microbiology and other disciplines. It cooperates closely with the University Clinical Centre of the Republika Srpska as a clinical teaching and research partner. With the highest number of scientific publications within the university each year, it underscores its central role in medical research in the region. With the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding, the relatively young university is strengthening its international orientation.
