Peter Marhofer receives Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art

(Vienna, 25 June 2025) Peter Marhofer, anaesthetist and intensive care physician at MedUni Vienna, has been awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art for outstanding services. The award was presented to him by Federal Minister Eva-Maria Holzleitner at a ceremony in the Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research.

Peter Marhofer is an anesthesiologist and intensive care physician at MedUni Vienna's Department of Anesthesia, General Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Therapy, where he heads the Regional Anesthesia/Pediatric Anesthesia Research Group. He is an expert in pediatric anesthesia and ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia and is considered a pioneer in these fields.

At yesterday's ceremony at the Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research, honours were awarded to distinguished personalities. The Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, the Golden and Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria, and professional titles such as professor and government councillor were presented.

"The award winners stand for excellence, innovative strength and a deep sense of responsibility towards our society. Through their work, they not only enrich their respective fields, but also strengthen trust in science, the arts and public institutions.
