(Vienna, 26 March 2025) Jovan Rogozarski, PhD student at MedUni Vienna, was awarded the Young Researcher Prize at the 9th Atherothrombosis Winter School of the German Society of Cardiology (DGK) for the poster presentation on his thesis.

Jovan Rogozarski received the prize for his study entitled "Plasma Metabolomic Profiling of Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome Treated with Potent Platelet Inhibitors". The study compared two groups of patients - one treated with ticagrelor and one treated with prasugrel (both potent platelet inhibitors). Ticagrelor is known for its pleiotropic actions, effects that go beyond pure platelet inhibition, such as the frequently observed side effect of dyspnoea (shortness of breath). The study provided new insights into the development of these pleiotropic effects using plasma samples in a targeted metabolomic assay. The work was carried out under the supervision of Jolanta Siller-Matula (Clinical Division of Cardiology at MedUni Vienna) and in collaboration with Samuel Matthias Meier-Menches from the University of Vienna (Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, Institute of Analytical Chemistry, Joint Metabolome Facility).

Jovan Rogozarski is studying human medicine at MedUni Vienna and is completing his doctorate in vascular biology as part of the MDPhD excellence program. The MDPhD program gives students who are particularly committed to science and have achieved the best academic results the opportunity to begin their doctoral studies while still studying medicine.
