(Vienna, 26 May 2025) Richard Crevenna, Head of the Department of Physical Medicine, Rehabilitation and Pain Therapy at MedUni Vienna, has been elected President of the Austrian Pain Society (ÖSG).

Richard Crevenna is also the current President of the Austrian Society for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ÖGPMR). The MedUni Vienna expert thus unites two essential specialist areas that traditionally work closely together - and should benefit even more from each other in future.

"Both specialist societies stand for interdisciplinary thinking and action. The synergies between pain medicine and physical medicine are enormous - and we want to make even more targeted use of them in future," emphasizes Crevenna.

The future of pain therapy is interdisciplinary
Physical medicine is a central component of multimodal pain therapy and is used for both acute and chronic pain. Physical stimuli such as heat, cold or electricity are used not only to relieve pain, but also to promote mobility, muscle strength and independence. It promotes regeneration, provides lasting relief from chronic pain and improves mobility and quality of life. Thanks to its good tolerability and broad applicability, it can be individually adapted and easily combined with other forms of therapy.

Multimodal pain therapy in particular demonstrates the special potential of close interdisciplinary collaboration: it not only alleviates symptoms, but also makes a significant contribution to improving patients' quality of life in the long term. The proven cooperation between the specialist societies should continue to consistently strengthen and further develop this integrative, interdisciplinary approach in the future.
