The book series aims to be scientifically sound, easy to understand and practical. Its goal is to make the knowledge of MedUni Vienna scientists and doctors accessible to patients, relatives and interested parties. In the 21 books published in this series to date, MedUni Vienna authors cover relevant topics ranging from intestinal health to diabetes, smoking to back pain, pollen allergies to prostate cancer, headaches to the climate crisis and much more. Eating disorders, vaccinations, dementia and the treatment of pain are the focus of ongoing projects. Many other topics that are important in the field of individual health and public health are already on the list of future titles.
"With this series of health guides, MedUni Vienna is once again fulfilling its social responsibility not only to generate and teach health knowledge, but also to communicate it to the population," emphasised MedUni Vienna Vice-Rector Anita Rieder, co-initiator of the book series and author of the title "High Blood Pressure" at the ten-year anniversary celebration. The fact that medical guides are published by a specialist legal publishing house is not as unusual as it might seem at first glance: "Our task is, in principle, to make the wealth of knowledge of our authors accessible to readers in the most understandable and useful way possible. And that is exactly what we have achieved with this series," said Christopher Dietz, programme manager at MANZ Verlag, who has been involved in the project since its beginnings. What began ten years ago as a joint idea is now an established programme for health education.
The medical guides can be purchased in bookshops, in the MedUni Shop at University Hospital Vienna and in the MANZ-Onlineshop
