Leadership und Governance

Based on the overarching strategic objective “preventive medicine” of the Medical University of Vienna as outlined in the development plan for 2019-2024, a small interdisciplinary group of experts from within the host institution (Ch. Binder, Ch. Bock, H. Haslacher, G. Langs, M. Mayr, M. Müller, E. Schernhammer, S. Strohmaier, St. Thurner, O. Wagner, M. Zeitlinger) formed the founding group and engaged in a focused examination of the concept’s potential. Over a period of 18 months (2023-2025), the group held a series of in-depth meetings and discussions, drawing on their diverse academic and clinical backgrounds, to critically assess and refine the idea. These efforts ultimately led to the formulation of a strategic plan that now serves as the framework for the current project.

The Vienna Prevention Project (ViPP) cohort is owned by the Medical University of Vienna, with oversight and governance by a planning team as well as associated partners.

The ViPP planning team includes members representing a diverse array of disciplines - such as internal medicine, psychiatry, or occupational medicine - as well as relevant theoretical fields (e.g. epidemiology, health economics, data science). 

The City of Vienna’s government acts as the major partner of this project. In this, ViPP is supported by its associated partner the Krankenfürsorgeanstalt der Stadt Wien (KFA) and its hospital HERA, the health care institution for municipal employees of Vienna (represented by R. Winker, E. Wohlschläger-Krenn). 

The ViPP, together with two other cohorts located at the Medical University of Vienna – The Vienna Next Generation Childhood Initiative (ViNCI) and the Vienna Investigation of Trajectories in Aging (ViTA) – falls under the umbrella of the Vienna Health Study.
