Sustainable and effective healthcare through prevention and early detection
The goal of the Vienna Prevention Project is to offer the population a completely new healthcare model, aiming to prevent or detect numerous diseases early through efficient prevention measures and to treat them with the latest precision medical therapies. This approach seeks to optimize resource use in healthcare. By utilizing the most advanced methods in molecular and clinical medicine (precision medicine), the project aims to enhance understanding of individual differences in the development of various diseases and their interconnections.
A key component of the Vienna Prevention Project is the planned health-economic analysis to assess whether the examined, often costly methods and early treatments can be economically integrated into modern prevention strategies, as they help prevent significantly higher costs associated with late-stage diagnostics through earlier diagnosis and treatment. The study will model to what extent resources from late-stage curative medicine can be effectively reallocated to prevention and early diagnostics to promote healthier aging in society while maintaining or even reducing overall resource expenditure.
Long-term Vision
The Vienna Prevention Project aims to lay the foundation for the establishment of innovative health centers for preventive medicine in Vienna. These centers will provide the population with modern and easily accessible preventive screenings. In the long term, there are plans to establish similar facilities in all federal states.
The prevention centers will follow a One-Stop-Shop approach: All essential preventive measures in the fields of medicine and psychosocial health – including nutrition and exercise training, as well as counseling on communication and addiction prevention – will be offered under one roof with simple organization.
Given the increasing pressures in the workplace, occupational medicine and occupational psychology will also be a key focus. In addition, digital solutions and telemedicine services, especially for follow-up care, will be an integral part of the centers.
In the long term, these prevention centers aim to relieve the healthcare system while improving healthcare provision for the population. With this concept, Vienna can position itself as an international model for modern preventive medicine.
