Invitation to the seminar about "Antigen-specific regulation of human allergic inflammation by regulatory T cells and the microbiota", held by Prof. Dr. Alexandra Scheffold.

Alexander Scheffold studied Chemistry in Freiburg and Cologne from 1986-1992. During his PhD work at the University of Cologne in the group of Andreas Radbruch he developed new cytometric tools for functional characterization of T cells. From 1997 to 2007 he was a research group leader at the DRFZ Berlin, working on the extrinsic and intrinsic regulation of inflammatory T cell reactions by regulatory T cells.From 2007-2011 he was head of a research group on T cell therapy at Miltenyi Biotech and  developed new tools for the identification of human antigen-specific T cells and GMP processes for the generation of clinical T cell transplants. From 2012-2018 he was professor for cellular immunonolgy at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology. Since April 2018 he has been director of the Institute of Immunology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and the Universitätsklinikum Schleswig Holstein. His research focus is on the characterization of human antigen-specific T cells contributing to tolerance in the immune system and identification of cellular and molecular parameters involved in the loss-of tolerance in immune-mediated diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, allergy or autoimmunity.
