Molecular mechanisms for the protective effect of physical exercise on cancer incidence
Approximately 15 years ago we suggested an endocrine role for skeletal muscle in response to contraction and coined the term "myokine" to describe muscle secretory proteins. Recently we believe we have identified a protein secreted from skeletal muscle that provides a biological explanation for the epidemiological finding that physical exercise provides a protective role in breast cancer. These new data will be discussed.
