(Vienna, 3 April 2017) Pollen and allergies, high blood-pressure, diabetes and vaccination – these four medical topics are the focus of an afternoon event at the Thalia bookshop in Mariahilferstraße 99 (1060 Vienna), held as part of the official WHO World Health Day this coming Friday (7 April). Between 15:00 – 19:00 hours, the relevant experts from the Medical University of Vienna will be at the bookshop to present their health guides, published by MANZ Verlag. Topping the bill is Scientist of the Year 2016, Alexandra Kautzky-Willer, with her book on "Diabetes” (17:00 hrs).

At hourly intervals, the Medical University of Vienna authors will be presenting their respective self-help books from the Health.Sciences series and will then be available to answer questions and talk to interested members of the audience. Admission is, of course, free.

All the self-help books are aimed at laypeople and sufferers and make the outstanding knowledge of one of the most renowned medical research institutions in Europe available in an easy-to-read form. The books are written in a readily understandable style and reflect the very latest knowledge in the field. The proceedings are being kicked off on Friday by Uwe E. Berger and Katharina Bastl from MedUni Vienna's Pollen Monitoring Service ("Pollen and Allergies"), followed by Thomas Dorner from MedUni Vienna's Center for Public Health ("High blood-pressure") diabetes experts Alexandra Kautzky-Willer and Yvonne Winhofer ("Diabetes") and Ursula Wiedermann-Schmidt, MedUni Vienna immunologist and vaccination expert ("Vaccination").
