Markus Müller elected President of the Supreme Health Council

(Vienna, 25-06-2018) Markus Müller,  Rector of MedUni Vienna, was elected President of the Supreme Health Council (Oberster Sanitätsrat, OSR). This committee advises the Minister of Health on fundamental medical questions and makes recommendations.

The Rector of MedUni Vienna takes on a responsible task: “The Austrian health system is experiencing challenging times. Digitisation, optimisation of the division of labour between institutions and between health care workers, prevention and cost efficiency will be important topics for the foreseeable future. The aim of the OSR is to advise the government on relevant health care issues on the basis of the best evidence”.

MedUni Vienna currently holds ten positions on the Austrian Supreme Health Council (in alphabetic order):

  • Gabriele Fischer, Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy
  • Wolfgang, Gstöttner, Head of Department of Otorhinolaryngology
  • Christian Herold, Head of the Department of Biomedical Imaging and Image-guided Therapy
  • Markus Müller, Rector of MedUni Vienna
  • Hubert Pehamberger former Head of the Department of Dermatology
  • Paul Plener, Head of Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Arnold Pollak, former Head of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine
  • Anita Rieder, Vice Rector for Teaching of MedUni Vienna, Head of Center for Public Health
  • Thomas Szekeres, President of the Medical Association, Division of Medical-Chemical Laboratory Diagnostics
  • Ursula Wiedermann-Schmidt, Head of the Institute of Specific Prophylaxis and Tropical Medicine

 

The Supreme Health Council (OSR)
The Supreme Health Council (Oberster Sanitätsrat) is an advisory body of the Federal Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Protection and is composed of honorary members – experts from the fields of medicine, psychology, nursing, science, the medical association and chamber of pharmacists, social security and public health services.
The OSR is independent in its advisory activities. Its decisions have a proposal character and are not binding.
