The Department of Medicine III and the entire endocrinology community mourn the loss of Professor Dr Alois Gessl, a universally loved and highly valued colleague and friend. We are very sad that his enormous expertise, his reliability and friendliness are now lost to us for ever. Until very recently, he was actively promoting endocrinology and, despite his serious illness, tirelessly imparting his wealth of experience to younger colleagues. He was always ready to help and to lend a willing ear to everyone's concerns. Our thoughts are with his family and we hope that, like Alois, they will find strength and comfort in their faith.
