(Vienna, 9 March 2010) A joint seminar with the title “Globalization, Migration and Health” was held from 1st to 4th March 2010 at Mahidol University, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, in Thailand.

The aim of this international meeting was the extension of partnership networks between the Medical University of Vienna and Mahidol University, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, in Thailand. With the aim of extending existing research networks between Austria and Thailand, representatives of Vienna University (the Centre for East Asian Studies) also took part. They want to participate in the development of future research projects in the contexts of globalisation, migration, transnational networks and health.

By exchanging knowledge and experience, strengthening current capacities and creating new infrastructures as well as by cooperation with excellent researchers it is intended to develop balanced partnerships which yield new findings on international migration and healthcare provision and make them jointly usable and applicable.

This Austrian-Thai Joint Seminar was initiated and organised by Dr.in Christine Binder-Fritz in cooperation with Dr. Luechai Sringernyuang (Director of the Health Social Science International Programme, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities; Mahidol University).

Funding for this international meeting was provided by the Austrian Science Fund FWF and the National Research Council of Thailand.
