(Vienna, 10 May 2010) As of September this year, a change is going to be effected in the management of the Research Support Unit. The Research Support Unit is a service facility that aims to support the University's staff in their research activities. The Head of Research Support also provides major support for the Rector as he is in charge of "Research" within the Rector's Office.
The current Head of this Unit, Univ. Prof. Dr. Otto Scheiner, will retire as of the coming Sep¬tember and hand over his tasks to Univ. Prof. Dr. Markus Müller. In today's meeting of the Rector's Office Markus Müller was elected Deputy Head of the Research Support Unit. Here Otto Scheiner was also thanked for his work in this position over the past three years and his valuable activities, which he mostly conducted behind the scenes.
43-year-old Markus Müller is a specialist in internal medicine and clinical pharmacology and has been heading the Department of Clinical Pharmacology since 2004. As well as his excellent scientific achievements, he also ideally meets other prerequisites for his new function. Prof. Müller acts as a member of a number of major bodies in the national and European research landscape. Among other memberships he is Member of the Board of Trustees of the Austrian Science Fund FWF, of the Senate of the Christian Doppler Research Association and of the Standing Committee of the European Medical Research Council (EMRC) of the European Science Foundation. In addition, he was the initiator of MedUni Vienna's postgraduate course "Clinical Research".
It is highly appreciated that Prof. Müller will be available as the Head of the Research Support Unit.
