(Vienna, 8 Nov. 2010) At the 2010 Seminar of Nobel Laureates at MedUni Vienna, the international relief organisation Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and the Medical University of Vienna International (MUVI) as well as MedUni Vienna signed a declaration of intent concerning a future cooperation based on partnership. This happened on the occasion of the visit of MSF President, Unni Karunakara. This organisation was Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1999.

On 4 November 2010 the Austrian division of Médecins Sans Frontières and the Medical University of Vienna jointly with MUVI signed a Memorandum of Understanding which lays down the major framework conditions of an envisaged cooperation in partnership.

This agreement, among other points, will enable MFS physicians to take part in training programmes on specific subjects of the MedUni Vienna’s university hospitals free of charge, the MedUni’s physicians in turn will be released from work for participating in MSF projects. Another special focus will be the inclusion of such projects within the framework of the MedUni Vienna’s research focus “global health”. Here the goal is closer research cooperation in the future via the university-based platform of the Centre for Geographic Medicine of MedUni Vienna, in addition MSF also wants to make available its operational centre in special cases.

Apart from these main points, there will be closer cooperation also in other fields, with the details however still to be determined in the final agreement.
