Wolfgang Schütz unanimously confirmed as Rector

The Rector of the Medical University, Wolfgang Schütz, has been confirmed for another term of office as the head of MedUni Vienna by the University Council.

(Vienna, 15 Dec. 2010) The Rector of the Medical University, Wolfgang Schütz, has been confirmed for another term of office as the head of MedUni Vienna by the University Council. In yesterday’s committee meeting all five University Councillors voted for him, and in October the Senate also showed its support for him with 22 out of 26 votes. The Rector’s new period of office begins on 1 October 2011.

Incumbent rectors can be reappointed according to the University Act, the requirement being a two thirds majority in the Senate and University Council. Schütz has been Rector since the Medical University of Vienna hived off from the University of Vienna on 1 January 2004.

In 1993 Univ. Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schütz was appointed Full Professor of Pharmacology, and from 1995 to 1999 he was Head of the Institute of Pharmacology of the University of Vienna.
