Yash Patel

President of the YSA

Yash holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biomedical Engineering. During his postgraduate studies, he participated in a research project at the Narayana Nethralaya Eye Hospital in Bengaluru, focusing on the segmentation of corneal layers from OCT scans and the generation of thickness and curvature maps.

In 2023, Yash commenced his doctoral studies at the Center for Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, Medical University of Vienna, under the guidance of Dr. Conrad Merkle. His research is focused on utilizing Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) imaging techniques to detect and analyze Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration in a mouse model.

Ângela Marques

Secretary General of the YSA

Ângela did her Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and her Master’s degree in Molecular Biomedicine at the University of Aveiro (Portugal). In 2023, she started her PhD as a MSCA fellow within the ROPES (ROles of ePitranscriptomic in diseasES) network. She works under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Michael Jantsch at the Center for Anatomy and Cell Biology of the Medical University of Vienna. In her doctoral research, she aims to optimize site-directed RNA editing of Filamin A as a therapeutic approach for cardiovascular disease, colitis, and vascularized tumors.

Maria-Chistine Mautner

Treasurer of the YSA

Maria-Christine graduated from a Bachelor's and Master’s Degree in Psychology with specialization in Clinical and Health Psychology as well as in Work- and Organizational Psychology at the University of Vienna (Austria) and a postgraduate Master's Training in psychotherapeutic Dance and Movement Therapy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain). During her studies, she reserved two exchange research scholarships, one called Joint Study at the University of Montreal (Canada) and another one in the context of Erasmus+ at University of Athens (Greece).

In 2022, she started her PhD at the Department of Internal Medicine III in Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Gender Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna. She works under the supervision of Professor Alexandra Kautzky-Willer in the Chiari-Metabolism-clinic and the Gender Medicine Unit. Maria-Christine is studying in the PhD program Public health and research the bidirectional impact of metabolic diseases and mental health problems.
