The long term objectives are:

  • To raise awareness for bioethical issues in Austria and fill existing voids.
  • To reinforce and increase the capacities in the area of ethics research and especially of ethics education.
  • To promote a stable and long term Bioethics programme at the Medical University of Vienna.
  • To cooperate with the UNESCO Bioethics programme in a sustainable way.
  • To develop and promote a network of researchers in this field on a regional, national and international basis.
  • To promote UNESCOs ethics education programme by dissemination of the declarations and – among others – translating UNESCOs Bioethics Core Curriculum in German language and disseminate it etc.
  • To cooperate with African researchers and strengthen ethics capacity in North-South research as well as to raise awareness in Europe regarding the importance of North-South research and to participate in Assisting Bioethics Committees activities.
  • To strengthen the position of women in bioethics.
