With around 6.500 employees and 8.600 students, the Medical University of Vienna is one of the largest top-level biomedical research and teaching institutions in Europe. The Center of Pathobiochemie und Genetik is looking for a full-time (40 hours per week) Postdoctoral position (m/f/x) (with immediate effect). This is a fixed term position for a duration until 31 January 2027.

Your Tasks:

This postdoctoral position focuses on understanding the regulation of liver and whole-body metabolism during healthy and deregulated liver regeneration, with a particular emphasis on the interplay between different cell types, such as hepatocytes and macrophages. The project will utilize several methodologies, including:

  • Preclinical mouse models with surgical interventions, such as jugular vein catheterizations and partial hepatectomies
  • Genetic and dietary mouse models to study metabolic pathways in distinct liver cell types
  • Proteomics, metabolomics, and isotope tracing to map metabolic fluxes
  • Mass spectrometry imaging to visualize spatial metabolic changes
  • Nuclear medicine approaches, including PET imaging, to explore systemic metabolic adaptations

Our goal is to uncover how metabolic networks are rewired during liver regeneration and how these insights can be leverages for therapeutic interventions in liver disease. The project is integrated into the national research cluster Immunometabolism, and the necessary infrastructure, approvals, and experimental setups are already in place, allowing for immediate engagement in research activities.
