Course structure & Curriculum

Course duration

  • The course is scheduled to run for three years and usually consists of six sessions per semester, which in turn take place over two days (Friday and Saturday). These dates include both lectures and practical exercises. Attendance at lectures is not compulsory; e-learning materials are provided. However, attendance is compulsory for practical courses at the Medical University of Vienna. Examinations usually take place cumulatively at the end of the semester.
  • The university course lasts 6 semesters with a total of 600 academic hours (aS) of compulsory courses. Of these, 435 aS are theoretical lessons and 165 aS are seminars, totalling 60 ECTS points.

  • Fundamentals and Safety Regulations - Clinical Radiation Oncology, Physical Measurement Techniques in Medicine, Radiation Biology, Radiation Protection, Laser and Electromagnetic Safety - 9 ECTS

  • Mathematical and technical methods, hospital administration - statistics, biophysics, biomedical engineering, hospital organisation, digital image processing I, 9 ECTS

  • X-ray and sectional imaging 1 (CT, MR) - 10.5 ECTS

  • Nuclear Medicine and Cross-Sectional Imaging 2 (Ultrasound) - 9 ECTS

  • Special chapters of Medical Imaging - Digital Image Processing II and Medical Optics - 3 ECTS

  • Radiotherapy - 12 ECTS
