(Vienna, 29 January 2025) Judit Simon, Head of the Department of Health Economics and Deputy Head of the Center for Public Health at MedUni Vienna, has been appointed to the EU Commission's Advisory Committee on Public Health Emergencies (ACPHE). The committee advises the Commission and the EU member states in the event of public health emergencies.

With the Advisory Committee on Public Health Emergencies (ACPHE), the European Commission has set up a new advisory body for public health emergencies. This committee was established in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support and advise the Commission and Member States before, during and after health crises. It is a key part of the EU's Health Union and aims to strengthen the response to cross-border health threats.

The panel consists of 44 independent experts from various disciplines and sectors. In the event of a serious health crisis, it decides whether a situation is classified as a health emergency and recommends measures to mitigate the effects. The basis for this is the EU Regulation on serious cross-border threats to health.
