„Together we go further“: 30.000 Runden sind das diesjährige Ziel des 19. Krebsforschungslaufs
All News

(Vienna, 25 September 2025) "Together we go further" is the motto and goal of this year's charity event organised by the Medical University of Vienna. One hundred percent of the donations from participants, partners and sponsors will go towards cancer research projects at the Medical University of Vienna, and if all participants together reach 30,000 laps, generous corporate partners will increase the amount raised by a further €17,500. The 19th run for cancer research will take place on Saturday, 4 October 2025, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Altes AKH university campus in Vienna.

At the MedUni Vienna Cancer Research Run, runners can complete as many laps as they wish at their own pace on the 1.6-kilometre circuit at the Altes AKH University Campus in Vienna. It is also possible to participate in distance run mode on a route of your choice. All kilometres run will be counted – the main thing is to reach a total of 30,000 laps. Registration is online at www.krebsforschungslauf.at in exchange for a donation. Anyone who wants to participate spontaneously can also register directly at the event.

Cancer mortality rates are falling thanks to research
In Austria, more than 45,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year, with men being affected slightly more often than women. Cancer is currently responsible for around one fifth of annual deaths. (Source: Statistics Austria, 2025). While the number of new cases continues to rise, cancer mortality is falling. Relative survival five years after diagnosis has increased significantly in recent years: while it was 55.8% in the 1995 to 1999 diagnosis period, it rose to 63% in the 2015 to 2019 period (source: Statistics Austria 2025). This positive development is largely due to advances in cancer medicine. The results of basic research are improving diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and enabling new treatment and prevention concepts.

Donations support innovative research projects
100% of the donations raised by the MedUni Vienna Cancer Research Run go towards research projects at MedUni Vienna. Since the Cancer Research Run was established, over 60 innovative research projects have been funded with over two million euros. After the 19th Cancer Research Run, new projects will be selected via a competitive call for proposals to advance the development of targeted, personalised therapies in the field of precision medicine.
