The IT Services team mourns the loss of Barbara Funk, who passed away after a short and serious illness.
Barbara Funk was born in Styria in 1969 and was interested in technical subjects from an early age. After leaving school, she started working at the University Clinic for Surgery at the AKH in the late 1980s and became the first IT supervisor there in 1991. At the end of the 1990s, she moved to the Institute of Medical Computer Science to work in the new firewall and security department.
After the spin-off of the Medical University of Vienna in 2004, Barbara Funk was part of the team that founded the ITSC, now the IT department of the Medical University. In the network team, she was responsible for the administration of the firewalls and the terminal device database, which are one of the most important foundations for the secure operation of the internal network. At the same time, she completed her Matura in computer science at the HTL Wien West while working.
It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Barbara, whom we will always remember as a helpful, friendly and competent colleague - but also as a passionate mountain biker. Our sympathy goes especially to her family in these difficult days.
