(Vienna, 21 March 2024) Together with its university hospital, University Hospital Vienna, the Medical University of Vienna forms a district of its own that dominates the cityscape. Viennese photographer Stefan Oláh captures this built substance from almost 250 years in the illustrated book "Architecture for Medicine - A Cultural History of the Medical University of Vienna and University Hospital Vienna".

Stefan Oláh takes a look behind the scenes at MedUni Vienna and University Hospital Vienna, showing not only the impressive architecture but also operating theaters, medication robots, disinfection lines, phantom rooms and much more. The series of images is complemented by a cultural studies essay on the subject by Ulrike Matzer.

The illustrated book, published by Birkhäuser, will be released on April 1, 2024 and will be available in the MedUni Shop (entrance area of Vienna General Hospital, level 5), among other places.

In May and June 2024, selected photographs from the illustrated book will be exhibited in the gallery in the entrance hall of Vienna General Hospital.

On March 20, 2024, MedUni Vienna hosted the book presentation in the Art Nouveau lecture hall as part of "20 years of MedUni Vienna":
