17 September: Patient Safety Day in Vienna General Hospital

Information about hand hygiene and practical exercises for all visitors.

(Vienna, 16-09-2015) Vienna General Hospital is celebrating International Patient Safety Day on 17 September 2015 by providing information sessions about hospital hygiene and infection control.

There will be demonstrations for patients and visitors at the Meeting Point in Vienna General Hospital to show them how to disinfect their hands properly, which is the simplest and most effective way to prevent the spread of infections. Their hands will be checked using the Didactobox to make sure they have washed them correctly and, if they have, they will receive a tasty reward from the hospital kitchens.

In everyday clinical practice, it is equally important to make sure that medical equipment is properly cleaned, disinfected and sterilized and to check these processes and all equipment for hygienic safety. Visitors will also learn more about the rules that are followed in Vienna General Hospital to prevent hospital-acquired infections and measures that are being taken against multi-resistant pathogens.

Experts from Vienna General Hospital and MedUni Vienna will talk about the numerous tasks associated with hospital hygiene, about resistant pathogens and infections and about the sensible use of antibiotics and will be available to answer questions on these topics.
