(Vienna, 25 August 2016) Ljubomir Petricevic from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has been voted onto the Board of the International Society for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISIDOG). He is also to head up the Scientific Board of this specialist Society.
The International Society for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ISIDOG) is exactly what its name suggests. The Society unites scientists and clinicians from the fields of gynaecology, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry and other areas concerned with infections and women's health. The Society fulfils an advisory function in the areas of research, teaching and treatment of infections in obstetrics and gynaecology.
The function of ISIDOG's Scientific Board is to link researchers concerned with infections in obstetrics and gynaecology. It promotes scientific input and supports research initiatives aimed at improving women's health. With this in mind, the Scientific Board organises international conferences and advanced training courses on the subject of infectiology in obstetrics and gynaecology.
The next international conference to be held by ISIDOG, in collaboration with ESIDOG Austria (European Society for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Austrian Commission) and the ÖGGG (Austrian Society for Obstetrics and Gynaecology), for which Ljubomir Petricevic is Conference President and Chairman of the organising committee, will be in Vienna on 26 – 29 October 2017.
About Ljubomir Petricevic
Ljubomir Petricevic was born in Subotica in Serbia in 1973. After obtaining his school leaving certificate (1992, with distinction), he studied medicine in Belgrade and Vienna. He completed his studies with his dissertation "Premature birth and infection", written under the supervision of H. Kiss, and this was published in the British Medical Journal (2004). He subsequently pursued his specialist medical training at MedUni Vienna's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which he completed in 2011. He then worked as a consultant at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of MedUni Vienna at Vienna General Hospital. He qualified as a professor in 2015 and was awarded the venia docendi (topic: Importance of Lactobacillus species for women’s health and influence on vaginal microbiota); he was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2015.
Petricevic is head of the infection team and the microbiological laboratory for gynaecological and obstetric infections at the Vienna Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is second Vice-President of ESIDOG Austria (European Society for Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Austrian Commission). He has been awarded many performance scholarships, promotional scholarships and research grants. In 2014, he was awarded the science prize by the Working Group for Infections and Infection Immunology of the German Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He publishes articles in and writes reviews for numerous international journals.
