(Vienna, 19 August 2016) The Medical University of Vienna mourns the loss of Alfred Choueki, who died on Sunday, aged 73.

Prof. Dr. Alfred Choueki was born in Vienna in 1943. He spent his school years in Damascus and then studied medicine at the University of Vienna. During his studies, he worked as a student assistant and then as a demonstrator in the Institute's dissection classes. He gained his medical degree in 1979 and started work as a hospital doctor. However, in 1980, he very quickly returned to his beloved anatomy and started a career at the University of Vienna's Institute of Anatomy, which he served loyally until his retirement in 2008. Alfred Choueki was an experienced teacher and his students particularly valued his realistic and practical teaching. His colleagues greatly admired his calm and reassuring manner and his professional expertise.
