Vienna Medical Association Grand Decoration in Gold for Florian Thalhammer

(Vienna, 27 October 2017) Florian Thalhammer, infectiologist at the Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine within the Department of Medicine I, has been awarded the Grand Decoration in Gold by Vienna Medical Association in recognition of his many years service to education and further training.

For many years Florian Thalhammer has organised the further training courses "Poisonous Tuesday", "Poisonous Saturday" etc. with the Austrian Society of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine, addressing topical issues associated with infectious diseases, as well as the advanced training course "Internal Medicine compact" with the Austrian Society of Internal Medicine. These courses are run in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna and the training department of Vienna Medical Association.

About Florian Thalhammer
Florian Thalhammer, born in Vienna in 1964, was interim Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine within the Department of Medicine I of the Medical University of Vienna. He graduated in medicine from Vienna University in 1991 and gained his postdoctoral qualification in Internal Medicine in 1999. His additional medical specialisms are infectious diseases and tropical medicine. Since 2007 he has been President or Vice-President (2012/2013) of the Austrian Society of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine.
His research work focuses on: antibiotics in extracorporeal renal replacement therapy and other organ replacement procedures, the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of antibiotics and modern wound management.
