ESUR presidency to Gertraud Heinz

(Vienna, 22 September 2010) At the 17th European Symposium on Urogenital Radiology in Bruges, Ao. Univ. Prof. Dr. Gertraud Heinz from the Clinical Division of General Radiology and Children's Radiology of the Department of Radiology at MedUni Vienna was nominated President of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR).

Since its foundation in 1990 ESUR has made itself a name as a professional organisation for radiologists with particular interest in the field of urogenital radiology and contrast media research in Europe and is dedicated to the further development of this subspecialty and to research and teaching in these fields. In this work it cooperates closely with the American Society of Uroradiology (SUR) and now boasts members from over 40 countries in Europe, America, Asia and North Africa.
As well as coordinating experimental research in urology, ESUR also acts as a forum for presenting and discussing basic scientific topics in this field and aims at promoting cooperation between scientists and the clinical staff.

Says Heinz about the presidency: "It is a great honour and pleasure for me to be able to take over the presidency of the European Society of Urogenital Radiology. I will make every effort to keep up the Society's achievements and, jointly with my international Board members, foster ESUR's further development regarding research and the provision of knowledge in the field of urogenital radiology and contrast media safety. We have already taken one very important step in this direction with the setting up of the ESUR Global Educational Programmes on the safe use of contrast media. Another goal of my presidency is the promotion of an international network of uroradiologists for the mutual exchange of specialist expertise and, last but not least, for the creation of international friendships."
