The accreditation of Al Ain Hospital by JCI (Joint Commission International) distinguished the excellent work of the MUVI team in this hospital project. On the occasion of the accreditation, His Highness, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan also visited the hospital and again reaffirmed plans for the new building.With 425 beds and 2,500 employees Al Ain Hospital is a model project in terms of its dynamic development: as a global player in top healthcare management MUVI is being entrusted with the medical supervision of the hospital. Jointly with VAMED, a reliable partner of MUVI in other projects, the conversion and partial new construction as well as the setting-up of a new quality infrastructure, in some cases with state-of-the-art equipment, has been realised in the United Arab Emirates. This was in part thanks to the high level of competence of the MedUni Vienna experts. MUVI plays a leading part in the management of clinical planning, trains specialist medical staff, monitors clinical and therapeutic operations and takes on major responsibility for restructuring and modernising the Al Ain Hospital. Accreditation by JCI is the acknowledgement of quality and a benchmark at the same time. With the international certification according to JCI, the top priority of patient safety and quality standards was confirmed officially and by independent authorities. Al Ain Hospital is one of the first hospitals in the Arab world to be accredited by Joint Commission International.
A success, as emphasised by Univ.-Doz. Dr. Stefan Marlovits, which is mainly due to the excellent cooperation and collaboration of the entire hospital team. As well as the Medical Director of Al Ain Hospital, Univ.-Doz. Dr. Gerhard Schwab and his deputy Univ.-Doz. Dr. Stefan Marlovits, some 10 physicians of MedUni Vienna are also active in leading positions at the Al Ain Hospital clinics. Furthermore, up to 2010, more than 50 MedUni Vienna experts have made an essential contribution to the success with their short- and longer-term work at Al Ain Hospital.Following the successful accreditation of the Prince Court Medical Centre in 2008, the certification of Al Ain Hospital according to JCI means the second internationally recognised hospital accreditation which has been confirmed for a MUVI project within a short period. On the occasion of the official accreditation, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visited the hospital and expressed his appreciation for MUVI's achievements. He emphasised that Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will further expand and professionalise the public and private healthcare sectors. Innovation, development and growth in the healthcare system constitute a major part of the "Abu Dhabi 2030 Vision" and are intended to help establish top-notch medicine in the region.A clinic for the futureBy 2013 a new clinical centre will be built which will represent a benchmark for the Arab countries. The Abu Dhabi health authority is presenting the new Al Ain Hospital as a "healing oasis" with 688 beds in an area of 358,000 m². The plans comprise the following facilities: a centre of excellence for trauma, orthopaedic and sports medicine, the first stroke unit in the UAE, as well as high-tech cardiology, a rehabilitation centre and a mother-child centre at the highest level. At an early stage MedUni Vienna's expertise is already being integrated into the comprehensive planning and realisation processes of the new hospital.Setting international standards
Abu Dhabi represents a major challenge for MUVI and its employees for several reasons: there is fierce international competition in the UAE; apart from MUVI, Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, Harvard Medical School and other distinguished academic healthcare institutions are also present. The quarterly monitoring continuously compares the performance of Abu Dhabi's public hospitals that are led by international management. Moreover, the multicultural diversity - people from more than 150 nations live in the UAE - requires a high degree of sensitivity and tact in clinical, professional and personal terms.
Saif Bader Al-Qbasi, Chairman of the local health authority SEHA, expressed his thanks and appreciation for the visit by His Highness. He added that the hospital in Al Ain would be a world-class therapeutic environment with the best medical services and the latest technology in the field of healthcare, and this is thanks also to the cooperation with the Medical University of Vienna.
