Alexandra Kautzky-Willer nominated for the “Women inspiring Europe” calendar

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) honours some of Europe's most remarkable women who are dedicated to breaking down gender-specific stereotypes.

(Vienna, 15th April 2013) With the “Women inspiring Europe” calendar, which was launched in 2010, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) strives to offer some of Europe's most remarkable women who are dedicated to breaking down gender-specific stereotypes a public platform and pay homage to them by highlighting their outstanding achievements. For the week of the 15th to the 21st of April 2013, Alexandra Kautzky-Willer, Professor of Gender Medicine at the MedUni Vienna, has been accorded this honour.

About the individual
Alexandra Kautzky-Willer became Austria’s first ever Professor of Gender Medicine in January 2010. She is an expert in endocrinology and the metabolism where gender-specific differences are particularly noticeable. Following her doctorate (in 1988) and completion of training to become a specialist in internal medicine (in 1996), she gained her teaching qualification at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna in 1997. Since 2002, Professor Kautzky-Willer has been head of the diabetic, lipid and obesity outpatient clinics and has been in charge of the Gender Medicine Unit at the University Department of Internal Medicine III since 2010.
