Doctors of tomorrow: 300 graduates from the Medical University

(Vienna, 04-11-2011) 300 graduates from the MedUni celebrated the happiest day of their academic lives on Friday 4th November.

(Vienna, 4th November 2011) – At a fun-filled gathering attended by around 7,000 guests, 300 graduates from the Medical University of Vienna celebrated the happiest day of their academic lives on Friday 4th November at the Austria Centre in Vienna. Amid thunderous applause from their families, friends and acquaintances, the doctors of tomorrow swore their academic oath and received their degree certificates from Rector Wolfgang Schütz.

“The atmosphere was brilliant," said Rector Wolfgang Schütz, who, just like last year, was again delighted by the high number of graduates. In view of the high number of graduates, the ceremonial handover took place in two successive ‘rounds’. The last graduate received his degree scroll at 5:10 pm. The next step for the graduates is training to become a specialist or an internship, or a further period of scientific study.

“Studying at the MedUni offers the young doctors ideal training for responsible and independent clinical practice through a combination of scientific and practical training. In future, we will be stepping up the practical aspects of the course through further syllabus reforms,” said Vice-Rector Karin Gutiérrez-Lobos, who is in charge of teaching, at the graduation ceremony.
